New Delhi: Most of the people are aware of the condition of the roads in the country, in such a situation, it has become common for people to die in road accidents. Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, while addressing an event organized by industry body FICCI through video conference on Thursday, has said that 50% of road accidents in the country are due to disturbances made while making roads.
Wrong road construction happening due to cost saving
Nitin Gadkari says that in order to save their cost in many places in the country, most of the contractors bypass the road safety rules and leave a lot of black spots in the road which becomes the cause of major accidents in future. Gadkari says that 50% of road accidents in the country are the result of these cost-saving and disturbances done while building the road.

One and a half lakh deaths annually in road accidents
According to Nitin Gadkari, now the government is going to start a special initiative to improve these black spots on the roads. In which now 15-20% of the road accidents will be the responsibility of the drivers, while 10-15% will be the responsibility of automobile engineering. He said that his goal is to reduce the death toll in road accidents by 50 percent by the year 2024.
