TRS MP Maloth Kavita jailed for 6 months for bribing voters

Hyderabad: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MP Maloth Kavitha from Mahabubabad in Telangana has been sentenced to six months imprisonment by a local court for bribing voters during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The court hearing cases related to MPs/MLAs has also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on them.

TRS MP is the second accused in the case

The TRS MP is the second accused in this case. The first accused is party worker Shaukat Ali. The judge has directed both the accused to undergo simple imprisonment for six months and pay a fine of ten thousand rupees. Police said the case was registered by the Bergampahar police in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district following a complaint by election officials. This case is related to a party worker seeking votes for him.

Will appeal in High Court – Kavita

Both the accused were present in the court during the pronouncement of the judgment on behalf of Judge CH VRR Varaprasad. The court has convicted him under section 171E (punishment for bribe) of IPC. After the sentence, Kavita told the news agency PTI-Bhasha that she has got bail and will appeal in the High Court on this subject.

Let us inform that when accused Shaukat Ali was prosecuted, he admitted that he had distributed the money given by MP Maloth Kavita to influence the voters.
