The Trinamool Congress has decided to intensify its attack on the government over the espionage scandal. In the Parliamentary Party meeting held this evening, the party decided that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement in Parliament on the issue of espionage scandal would be sought. After the meeting, the party’s leader in the Lok Sabha Sudip Bandopadhyay told ABP News that the proceedings of the Parliament would not be allowed until the Prime Minister gave a statement on the issue in Parliament.
The name of Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has also cropped up in the Pegasus spying case and the government is accused of tapping his phone. Abhishek Banerjee is also a Lok Sabha MP.
Before leaving for Delhi today, Mamata Banerjee has announced to set up a two-member inquiry commission to probe the Pegasus espionage case in the state. Former Supreme Court judge Justice Madan B Lokur and former Chief Justice of Kolkata High Court Jyotirmoy Bhattacharya have been made members in the commission.
On this decision of Mamta Banerjee, Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said that the Congress party is already demanding a probe under the supervision of the Supreme Court. On the other hand, BJP’s Darjeeling Lok Sabha MP Raju Bishta termed this move of Mamata Banerjee as a drama.
