The impact of the Russia-Ukraine dispute was also on the exercise ‘Milan’ of the Indian Navy, know when will it start

The impact of the ongoing dispute with Ukraine is also visible on the ‘Milan’ exercise of the Indian Navy. Russia is not participating in the ‘Milan’ exercise starting in Visakhapatnam from Friday. According to the Indian Navy, navies of 40 countries are participating in the meeting. Of these, there are half a dozen countries including America, whose warships are also reaching the Bay of Bengal to participate in the exercise. According to sources, India had invited Russia, but no response has been received from Russia yet.

The Indian Navy is going to conduct a major exercise named ‘Milan-2022’ with the intention of increasing rapport and strengthening relations with the navies of friendly countries in the sea. The special thing is that during the Milan exercise, not only will an operational exercise be conducted in the Bay of Bengal, but a grand ‘city-parade’ of marines of all countries will also be organized in Visakhapatnam.

According to the Indian Navy, the Milan exercise, starting on the 25th, will be in two parts. The first will be the Harbor Face, which will be held from February 25 to February 28 and the second phase will be in the sea from March 1-4. In the Harbor Face, navies of all countries will participate in the city-parade in Visakhapatnam as well as participate in international seminars and there will be interaction of naval officers. Apart from this, a two-day tour of Agra and Bodh Gaya will also be included so that each other’s cultural heritage can be exchanged. After this, four days of exercise will take place in the Bay of Bengal.

The motto of this year’s MILAN exercise is Comradery, Cohesion and Collaboration i.e. Reconciliation, Solidarity and Cooperation. This is the 11th edition of the Milan exercise. The first MILAN exercise was held in the year 1995. At that time, besides the Indian Navy, navies of four other countries participated. The last MILAN exercise was held in 2018 in which navies of 17 countries participated. Till now all the editions of Milan exercise were held in Andaman and Nicobar. This is the first time that this exercise is going to be held in the City of Destiny i.e. Visakhapatnam.
