New Delhi: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari lamented that the plantation work was not done well along the national highways. He said that as far as plantation of trees is concerned, not a single highway road can be justified. Addressing the program organized by IIT Tirupati in a digital way, the Minister also said that after all, how can one be an expert in road construction, how can one also be an expert in trees and plants?
Gadkari said, “Pandey sir is here. He cannot show me a highway where trees and plants are well planted. This is complete negligence.” However, it was not immediately known which official the minister was referring to.
The Minister of Road Transport and Highways urged the officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to involve experts in this field for planting trees along the National Highways to promote the Green Highway Policy.
He said, “We need ideas, innovation and research.” Gadkari said the government can reduce the cost of road construction by allowing people to import bitumen.
