NCRB Report: According to the data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) on Wednesday, an average of 77 rape cases were registered every day across the country in 2020. A total of 28,046 cases of rape were registered last year. The maximum number of such cases in the country were registered in Rajasthan and second in Uttar Pradesh. The NCRB, which comes under the Union Home Ministry, said that a total of 3,71,503 cases of crime against women were registered across the country last year which was 4,05,326 in 2019 and 3,78,236 in 2018.
According to the NCRB data, out of the cases of crime against women in 2020, there were 28,046 rapes in which 28,153 are victims. Last year the lockdown was imposed due to Kovid-19. He said that out of the total victims, 25,498 are adults and 2,655 are minors. According to the NCRB data of the previous years, there were 32,033 rape cases in 2019, 33,356 in 2018, 32,559 in 2017 and 38,947 in 2016.
Rajasthan recorded the highest number of 5,310 rape cases last year. After this, 2,769 cases were registered in Uttar Pradesh, 2,339 in Madhya Pradesh, 2,061 in Maharashtra and 1,657 in Assam. According to the data, 997 cases of rape have been registered in the national capital. Out of the total cases of crime against women last year, the maximum number of 1,11,549 were in the category of ‘cruelty by husband or relatives’ while 62,300 cases were of kidnapping.
NCRB data shows that 85,392 cases were of ‘assault to outrage modesty’ and 3,741 cases of attempt to rape. It states that during 2020, 105 cases of acid attacks were registered across the country. According to the data, 6,966 cases of death due to dowry were registered in India last year in which 7,045 were victims.
