Mumbai Rain, Landslide LIVE Updates: It rained continuously throughout the night in Mumbai and surrounding areas. During this, major accidents occurred in many areas of Mumbai due to landslides. At least 12 people were killed in a landslide in New Bharat Nagar of Vashi Naka in Chembur. According to the NDRF and BMC, the landslide, which took place around 1 pm, demolished four to five huts in the area.
Three occupants of five huts were killed and two were injured when five huts collapsed following a landslide in Mumbai’s Vikhroli suburb at around 2.30 pm due to heavy rains, a civic official said. The injured have been sent to the nearby hospital.
The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert in Mumbai today. Heavy rain is expected throughout the day today. Thane, Palghar and Raigad are also witnessing tremendous havoc of rain today. Water has entered homes in many areas of Mumbai. Throughout the night people were busy in taking out the water from the house. Andheri and adjoining low-lying areas have been flooded. Dadar was filled with so much water that BEST buses are seen to be more than half submerged. Many shops in Kandivali have been flooded, due to which goods worth lakhs got spoiled.
5 bodies recovered so far in Vikhroli
On the incident of building collapse in Vikhroli, DCP Prashant Kadam said, 5 bodies have been recovered so far and one injured girl has been admitted to the hospital. Right now 5-6 people are feared to be trapped.
