Bhupendra Patel took oath as the 17th Chief Minister of Gujarat on Monday. He was sworn in as the Chief Minister by Governor Acharya Devvrat in a simple ceremony. Two days ago, Vijay Rupani suddenly resigned from the post of Chief Minister following the order of the High Command. Assembly elections are to be held in Gujarat after almost a year and a half.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah and chief ministers of some BJP-ruled states were present at the ceremony held at Raj Bhavan. As per the decision of the party, only Patel took oath. Sources said that after the names of the ministers are finalised, other members of the Council of Ministers will take oath in the next few days.
According to BJP leaders, Patel’s work at the grassroots level, his hold on the cooperative sector, affiliation with party workers and administrative abilities have been given to Bhupendra Patel. Gujarat is dominated by the Patidar caste and a large number of voters belong to this caste.
