ED seizes assets worth 7 crores of three people including the treasurer of Nagaland terrorist organization NSCN

In Manipur, the Enforcement Directorate has arrested three people including the treasurer of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) and self-styled colonel Rayalung Nasrangbe, his wife Ruth Chawang, for extorting money from industrialists in Manipur, about Rs 7 crore. The movable property has been temporarily confiscated. This movable asset also includes bank balance, mutual funds and sum insured.

A top ED official said that this investigation was started by the ED under the FIR registered by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on 9 July 2020 and the charge sheet presented before the court on 29 December 2020. Under this investigation, the treasurer of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland IM and his associates were accused of running extortion rackets in Manipur and Nagaland and under this they were extorting money by intimidating companies engaged in construction works. It is also alleged that the company which started the road construction project in Manipur was also being collected in the form of illegal tax.

It is also alleged that all the money was being used for criminal acts and terrorist acts. The ED came to know during the investigation that the commanders of NSCN IM of 4 districts of Manipur were reporting directly to the treasurer. These districts were Senapati, Ukhrul, Chandel and Tamenglong. According to the allegation, the representatives of these four districts were giving the extortion money along with the details of the recovery made by them from various economic activities to Rayalung as he was the treasurer of the collective leadership.

According to the allegation, a huge amount of extortion i.e. illegal tax was being deposited by Rayalung in his wife’s and his own accounts as well. Along with this, many mutual funds and insurance were also bought through this money which were worth crores of rupees. This amount of extortion was also being deposited in the account of a person named Appam Muivah. This person is also said to be associated with the terrorist organization. After investigation, ED has initially attached movable assets worth Rs 6 crore 88 lakh, including bank balance, insurance and mutual funds etc. The inspection of the matter is going on.
