New Delhi. There will be a hearing in the Supreme Court on Friday about the serious situation of the spread of corona infection in the country. Earlier on Tuesday, a three-judge bench of the apex court sought answers from the Center on a number of issues, including the issue of vaccine prices. A bench of Justices DY Chandrachud, Justice L Nageswara Rao and Justice S Ravindra Bhat had heard the case. In the hearing on Tuesday, the Supreme Court had said that the wild increase in Kovid-19 cases was a ‘national crisis’ and said that it cannot remain a silent spectator in such a situation. At the same time, the court clarified that its automatic cognizance hearing on formulating a national policy for the management of Covid-19 does not mean suppressing the high court cases. The bench had said that the High Courts are in a better position to monitor the status of the epidemic within the territorial boundaries and the Supreme Court is playing a complementary role and its ‘intervention should be understood in the right perspective’ as some cases are even beyond the territorial boundaries .

The apex court had said that oxygen was a ‘necessary part’ of treatment for patients infected with the virus and said that it appears that a lot of ‘panic’ has been created due to which people have filed petitions in different High Courts for relief. The Delhi High Court on Thursday directed the Center to expedite the setting up of the remaining four PSA oxygen production plants in the national capital in view of the crisis arising out of the rapid increase in Kovid cases.
