While around on 150 corona virus vaccines research work is going on worldwide but top expert has shaken the expectations. Sir Patrick Wallace, the UK’s chief scientific adviser, says the corona virus cannot be prevented by vaccines. He says the vaccine will not be available until March next year. Wallace says that as on date chickenpox has been the only disease that has been eradicated.
Further he says the corona virus can be treated like a seasonal fever and that vaccine research has improved a lot but it is difficult to develop a vaccine that can reach a large number of people. Patrick has given this information to the parliamentary committee. He said it was unlikely that a vaccine could be found that would completely stop the infection.
Patrick says it is more likely that the disease will continue to spread and become common in some places. However, he clarified that vaccination will reduce the chances of infection and will also reduce the severity and fatality of the disease caused by the virus. After that it will be like the common flu. He said it would be clear in the next few months whether a vaccine could provide protection and if so, for how long.
Sir Patrick said a lot of vaccine candidates have developed an immune response but only after a third-stage trial will it be known if they can stop the infection. He said it would also show how safe the vaccines are and how to vaccinate large populations and it is difficult to procure the vaccine to the general public before March next year.
