The Congress has not taken a dig at the government’s statement in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday that no one died due to lack of oxygen during the second wave of Corona. Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said that we know very well that due to lack of oxygen, many hospitals refused to admit patients and many corona patients died.
Intensifying his attack on the government, Kharge said that if the government says so, then it is the first government which can neither hear nor see. Earlier, Minister of State for Health Bharti Praveen Pawar said on Tuesday that during the second wave of the Kovid-19 epidemic, no patient has died due to lack of oxygen from any state or union territory. He gave this information in a written reply to a question.
He also said, “However, during the second wave of the Kovid epidemic, the demand for oxygen had increased unexpectedly. During the first wave of the pandemic, the demand for this life-saving gas was 3095 MT which increased to around 9000 MT during the second wave.
He was asked whether a large number of people died due to non-availability of oxygen during the second wave. Pawar said that health is a state subject and the states and union territories give regular information to the Center about the number of Kovid cases and deaths. He said, “The Union Health Ministry has issued detailed guidelines to all the states and union territories for reporting deaths due to Kovid.”
He said, “Accordingly, all the states and union territories regularly inform the central government about the number of cases of Kovid and the number of deaths due to it. However, no state or union territory has reported any loss of life due to lack of oxygen.
