Bengaluru: Basavaraj government has started in Karnataka from today. Basavaraj Bommai has taken oath as the Chief Minister. Bommai Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot administered the oath of office and secrecy. With this, he became the 23rd Chief Minister of the state. Basavaraj was earlier handling important ministries like Home and Law in the Yeddyurappa government.
The new Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai is considered a very favorite of Yeddyurappa. Yediyurappa proposed Bommai’s name in the legislature party meeting. Yeddyurappa is considered to be the one who brought Bommai from Janata Dal to BJP. Coming from the Lingayat community, Bommai’s father SR Bommai has also been the CM of Karnataka.
Cabinet meeting to be held this evening, will discuss corona-floods
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai was seen in action even before taking oath. He said that I will chair the cabinet meeting later today. After that, I will hold a meeting with senior officials to review the COVID-19 and flood situation in the state. Before taking oath, Basavaraj Bommai reached Lord Shree Maruthi temple to have darshan.
Basavaraj Bommai is very close to Yeddyurappa
Bommai’s image is clear. Along with this, Yeddyurappa is also close and dear. At this time BJP cannot take the risk of offending Yeddyurappa, which is why the name of Yeddyurappa had to be stamped. It can be called Yeddyurappa’s masterstroke because Bommai is Yeddyurappa’s pawn.
Bommai came to BJP from JDS, father has also been Chief Minister
Bommai was earlier in JDS, was MLC twice. He joined the BJP in 2008 and has been an MLA three times since then. His father SR Bommai has also been the first Chief Minister and was a Union Minister in the HD Deve Gowda government. After the resignation of BS Yeddyurappa on Monday, Arun Singh, in-charge of Karnataka and Dharmendra Pradhan and Kishan Reddy, who were elected observers, reached Bengaluru on Tuesday morning. This was followed by a meeting of the BJP Legislature Party.
