India on Thursday supported Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s recent remarks in which she said that Pakistan cannot be forgiven for atrocities committed during the 1971 liberation struggle. In a press conference, Smita Pant, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, endorsed Sheikh Hasina’s remarks recently, saying that India respects and understands Prime Minister Hasina’s feelings very much. Hasina said that Pakistan cannot be forgiven for the atrocities during the 1971 freedom struggle.
When asked about Bangladesh Prime Minister’s remarks, Pant said, “More than two lakh women were raped, tortured.” We understand and respect the spirit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,”she said. There can be no denying that the state-backed atrocities were committed against the Bangladesh Liberation War in which 30 lakh people died.
